Last year I had an
opportunity to travel into Thailand and Myanmar formerly known as
Burma. In Bangkok, I met with a Christian Organization that works on
outreach programs for women and children at risk. It is heart breaking
to hear the atrocities of what goes on with children and teens in these
countries. I want to get involved someway… somehow!!! One program
provides education, outreach and mentorship to slum children in
Bangkok. Rescue children before they need to be reached. Make sure they
have the right education tools and mentors involved in their lives to
have more opportunities and options in life. Who knows someday we’ll
send them off to beauty school. A young girl in Asia can be sold for up
to 5 years of annual income for a family.
My point, get
to these kids, get to the parents and let them know we value their
children as well. We would like to support them and work with them to
get an education. I am only one person who only perhaps can help a
handful at a time. It is a start, it is a passion… I am not trying to
be a humanitarian, I just want to help. I have volunteered and worked
with children and teens for over 18 years. It is one of the little
known reasons I started the Haken Line to hopefully get more involved
in programs assisting children oversees.
Orphans

In Myanmar I
met with an orphanage, I fell in love with these kids. These kids live
in abject poverty but were very joyful and full of smiles. As I was
leaving one child asked if I was ever coming back. I was a little
choked up, replied “of course I will be back someday” In fact I figured
I would quit my job and work with orphans the rest of my life after
meeting these kids.
I am headed
back to Thailand and Myanmar this November. One of my goals for 2007 is
to raise awareness, raise funds, and to get involved with a few more
organizations who do outstanding work reaching children and teens in
these third world countries.
This month
(October) I will donate 10% all internet sales to help
raise funds for the organizations that do outreach among slum children
and these orphan kids as I visit them next month. I need your help. I
am hoping in the future to accept donation for these organizations. I
will most likely have some kind of quarterly promotion and a few other
fundraising ideas as I get more involved with these projects.
